AMBITIOUS CARD

EFFECT

the spectator's card changes, flips over, and constantly jumps from the middle of the deck to the top or bottom! This version is like most other ambitious card tricks, but it uses some of the best moves from all the other ones combined!

METHOD

Have a spectator select a card from the fanned deck. While the spectator is looking at their card, obtain a break over the bottom card. To get the break, I usually hold the deck from above with my right hand and then push the bottom card over with my pinky, then push down on the card with my pinky. Now, you have a break over the bottom card. Still holding the deck from above in your right hand, transfer the break to a thumb break and swing cut the top half of the deck to your left hand. Have the spectator return their card to the part of the deck in your left hand. Flip their card over using your thumb and the deck in your right hand and say something like " This is your card right?" Now, flip their card back over the same way, but also let the card in the thumb break fall on top of their card. Slide the top card of the deck in the left hand ( the card you just had a thumb break over ) into the other part of the deck in your right hand and tell the spectator that you are losing their card in the middle of the deck. Now riffle shuffle the two separate halves together, but make sure the top card of the half in your left hand falls last and remains on top of the deck. OK, you should now be holding the deck face down in your left hand. Do a double lift and tell the spectator that the top card is not their card. Slide the two cards as one halfway into the side of the deck. With the left hand's first, second, third, and fourth fingers, pull and slide the bottom card of the double into the deck. Use the right hand to steady the deck while you are sliding the indifferent card into the deck. The single card halfway in the deck is the spectator's card, but this is unknown to the spectator. You now say that the card that you placed in the deck has changed to their card. Put the card on the table and have the spectator flip the card over. While the spectator is flipping their card over, get a break under the bottom card, and once again, transfer the break to a thumb break and swing cut the top half of the deck into the left hand. (hmm, this seems familiar huh!) Now, you ask the spectator to put their card on the pile in the left hand. Put the top half of the deck back, but you transfer the thumb break back to the pinky break. You now have a break above their card which is under another card. Next, you cut that part of the deck to the top. Now, you have an unknown card on top of the spectators card, on top of the deck. Do a double lift and show that their card has risen to the top. Bend the double lengthways and tell them that you are marking the card so that they can find it later on. Next, put the double down and take only the top card off. When the top card is off of the deck, you must hold down their card ( the second card of the double ) so that they don't see that you really had two cards. Anyway, you now have a deferent card in your right hand which the spectator thinks is their card. You now put the card in the middle of the deck somewhere. It appears that you have just lost their card in the deck. You now reveal that the chosen card has come to the top of the deck and it is their card because the card is still bent. While you are showing them their card, you are going to get ready for the tilt move. Push the top card over with your thumb and get a break under the top card. Simultaneously, push down with your third and fourth fingers, popping the other side of the top card up. Push the top card against the side of your hand and hold a break. You should basically have the top card held up above the deck a little way on both sides, and the front of the card is held against the deck with your thumb. The top card looks like the top of the deck, but is really just the top card lifted up. Unbend the spectators card anyway you can and then put it in the gap between the deck and the top card. Tip the back of the deck towards you while you are putting the card in the deck, it makes the move look more realistic. After the card is in between the gap, secretly drop the top card down on top of the deck. The spectators card is now the second card to the top. Do another double lift and show that the card has risen to the top again! Put the double back down on the deck, slide the top card off and put it in the middle of the deck. I think that it is important to emphasize that their card "really does go into the middle of the deck." With each succession of it rising to the top. Unknown to the spectator, the card is still on top of the deck. You have apparently made their card mysteriously rise from the middle of the deck to the top twice. Cut their card to the bottom of the deck under the guise of saying that you will even cut the deck a couple of times to completely lose their card in the middle of the deck. Show the spectators that the top card is not their card this time. Emphasize the value of the card as you will be referring to it later. Say something like, " the top card, the______ is not your card." Now, hold the deck form above and get a pinky break. Switch the fingerbreak to a thumb break and hold the deck with your right hand only. Now you say something clever about making their card travel all the way to the bottom of the deck from the middle. Tap the deck with your index finger and release the card from your grip. The bottom card which is the spectators, will fall onto the table. If the card lands face down, you might try having the spectator flip it over to reveal that it is the chosen card. Have the spectator put the card into the middle of the deck. You tell the spectator that their card is in the middle of the deck, they even put it there themselves, but to prove it even more you will show them their card in the middle of the deck. Run through the deck to their card. Show them their card and secretly do a Hofzinser spread control, controlling their card to the top of the deck. Do a double lift and show them that the top card still is not their card. Lay the top card down. That card is really the spectator's chosen card, but once again, you have tricked them with the old double lift move. Show them that the top card of the deck is the same card you just put down on the table! If the top card is still the same card, what is the card on the table? Have the spectator flip over the card on the table, revealing that it's their card! Do a false shuffle and apparently lose the spectators card in the deck. Now, using the overhand shuffle, control their card to the bottom of the deck. At this point, you can use any ending for the ambitious card trick that you like, but here is the ending that I use. Now that I have the spectator's card at the bottom of the deck, I fan half of the deck in each hand. The fan in my right hand has the spectators card at the bottom. Do a couple of waves with the fans, then perform the "fan aces move." To do so, put the right hand fan under the left hand fan and slide the bottom card over and out, almost all of the way out of out of the right hand's grip, using the left hand's middle and fourth fingers. After the card is halfway out of the right hand's grip, put your pinky on top of the card and push down with the pinky and up with the third and fourth fingers. This should flip the chosen card over. The card should however, remain gripped between the pinky and fourth finger. The spectator can not see you sliding and flipping over the card because the fans are blocking his vision. Lay the card on the table (still under the fans) and slowly move the fans away, revealing the ambitious card.
