Trick Effect & Routine:
The magician asks a spectator to think of a number betwen 1 and 50. He tells them that the number must be odd, that both digits must be different, and that both digits must also be odd. Once the spectator has chosen a number, the magician pauses for a few seconds to think and then to the spectator's amazement, announces their number!
Preparation:
No preperation needed!
Method:
This is perhaps one of the easiest mental tricks you can do. That is because the magician literally does nothing. All you have to do is this:
1) Tell them to choose a number between 1 and 50.
2) Tell them that both digits must be different.
3) Tell them that both digits must be odd.
The trick is done. The reason that this trick works so well as that it is all psychological. When you first tell the spectator to pick a number between 1 and 50, and that it must be odd, they will more than often pick 25. Then you tell them that both digits must be odd and different. 25 no longer works so about 99.99% of the time they will up the first digit by one to 3, and the last digit to the next odd number, 7.
This gives them the number 37. Pause for a few minutes and then announce 37! This trick has never failed and it always amazes the audience every time I do it. What the spectator does not realize, is there is actually not as many choices as they think they have. By saying "Both digits must be different and odd" the word "both" automatically associates them with a 2 digit number. Then the fact that they must both be odd and different, leaves them with the final total of 8 choices. The trick is done and as simple as counting to 3.
